Chi è Marco Olmo? Nel mondo della corsa è molto conosciuto ma non è altrettanto noto al di fuori: quasi 61 anni, piemontese, è uno dei più grandi corridori di corse estreme (qui il suo palmares). La cosa che mi ha colpito di lui è che dice di correre per vendetta, per rifarsi; mi ha colpito perché anche io mi ritrovo in questa situazione: ho incominciato a correre anche per dimostrare qualcosa a me stesso prima che agli altri. Anche per riprendermi la rivincita con quel compagno di classe che al mio annuncio di abbandonare l’università mi disse “stavamo tutti solo aspettando quando l’avresti fatto” a cui è andato il mio primo pensiero dopo aver visto 42.195 m sul Forerunner mentre un sorriso mi si apriva sul viso. Olmo è umile e si distingue da quelli che corrono solo per farsi vedere, perché va di moda… Ha poesia nel correre ma non è teatrale cone certi personaggi. Lui corre. E corre tanto. E vince anche. Ma se anche non vincesse, fare di corsa l’Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (166 Km e dislivello positivo di 9.400 m) non è cosa da tutti. Aspetto con ansia il DVD che ho preordinato su Marco Olmo e di cui metto il trailer.

Who is Marco Olmo? He’s well known in the runners’ world (maybe just in Europe): 61 years old (almost), from Piedmont, he’s one of the great ultra-runners (here are his victories and great placements). The thing that impressed me about him is that he said that he runs in revenge; this impressed me because I feel myself in the same situation: I started to run because I wanted to demonstrate something to myself too. I started to run even to take revenge with that classmate who told me “we were just waiting when you would do it” when I told him I would leave the university; he was the first person in my mind when I saw 42.195 m on my Forerunner while a big smile got printed on my face. Olmo is humble and distinguishes himself from people who run just to impress other people, just because it’s trendy. There’s poetry in his running but he isn’t theatrical like some other runners. He runs. And he runs a lot. And he wins too. But even if he doesn’t win, running the ‘Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (about 103 miles with a positive height difference of about 30.840 feet) is not for all.
